Leaving Vienna we had a length bus trip to the lakes district. Heading to the town of Mondsee for lunch and a stroll to view the sites. The town is most famous for the church which features in the wedding scene in “Sound of Music”. The church is truly magnificent and very large. Heading out to the small town there were many beautiful historic buildings.

We walked a short distance to the nearby lake which had a fresh breeze blowing and a wonderful view of snow capped mountains.

After lunch it was back on the bus and heading towards Munich. Highlights of the trip was the spectacular views of the Alps which still had snow caps even though it is unseasonably warm.

Munich was dinner and more Christmas markets. The local sausage in bread was a winner.

Wien (Vienna)

The city of music and influential royal power-broking. Toured the summer Schonbrunn palace and its gardens. What a lineage spread across Europe. Christmas markets in the courtyard served up a hearty lunch and then off to the city centre to the winter palace, hero’s square, statues of Mozart and Strauss Jnr. Free time saw us in the walking streets, a shopping precinct that is pedestrians only.

Our very late night ended with a magnificent orchestral evening featuring music from Mozart, Strauss, Beethoven supported by operatic singing and ballet. Well worth the time and money.
